The Market Partners International Team
Lorraine Shanley, Principal
Lorraine Shanley, President of MPI, began her career at Barnes & Noble and Book of the Month Club, where she was EVP in charge of clubs and merchandise. She moved to HarperCollins as Editorial Director, but left to co-found Market Partners International, which remains the only firm focused on consulting and recruiting for publishers. Shanley serves on the Advisory Board of New York University’s Publishing Program, and for five years chaired the Launch Kids Media conference at Digital Book World. A member (and past president) of Women’s Media Group, she is on the board of Classroom Inc., a non-profit that creates interactive learning games for schools. She is a livery member of the Stationers Company Communications & Content Guild in London. Shanley graduated from the University of Rochester and received her M.A. from the University of Virginia, where she has served on the Jefferson Fellowship committee. In her spare time she writes articles on publishing, technology and social media, and regularly reviews audiobooks and books for several sites.
Amy Rhodes, Principal
Amy Rhodes, Executive Vice President, joined Market Partners in 2009 and was named a Partner in 2011. She has worked in sales and marketing and as publisher at a broad range of companies, including NAL, Random House, Little Brown, Abrams, Rodale, and Watson-Guptill. As Trade Publisher at Rodale, she grew revenues from $14 million to over $100 million in 4 years, and in her next role as Publisher and General Manager of Watson-Guptill, she took an unprofitable, illustrated book category publisher and positioned it for a profitable sale to Random House in only two years. Rhodes is a graduate of the University of Chicago and has taught at New York University’s School of Continuing Education. She is a member and past president of the Publishers Lunch Club, a group of senior publishing executives that was founded in 1915. A regular contributor to Goodreads, Rhodes is also a bike rider and avid duplicate bridge player.
Nina Sabak, Editorial Assistant and Office Manager
Nina Sabak, Editorial Assistant and Office Manager, received both her BA and MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, Sabak served as reader, editor, and, ultimately, co-editor-in-chief, for Hot Metal Bridge Magazine. Before joining Market Partners International, she worked as a summer intern for the National Book Foundation.
